Meet Gru. He's an aging, balding man with a neglected childhood.

He also happens to be one of the world's top villains, stealing some very renowned objects with the help of his tiny-but-numerous minions.

This is the protagonist in Universal's animated film "Despicable Me."

Gru is the second best super villain in the world, right after new villain Vector (Jason Segel), who outshines Gru by stealing one of the Pyramids of Giza.

While planning to steal the moon with the help of his minion and partner, Dr. Nefario (Russell Brand), he encounters three orphan girls selling cookies.

When Gru adopts them to serve his own scheme, he begins to grow fond of them, eventually becoming more and more of a father to them.

"Despicable Me" was okay, but not great. It's still a solid first effort from a new animation company, but the movie belongs more to Steve Carell and the minions, than to the creative team behind it.

They bring the real charm to this safe, sappy film. It's something kids will enjoy and adults will find cute. Thus, "Despicable Me" wasn't…despicable.
