Sexy Heroes are creating a high and much-needed standard for the current music scene, one show at a time.
The members of this unstoppable, big-name band are Nick Everett, guitarist and vocalist, who studies at RCC; Chris Watts on bass and vocals; Mike Watts on guitar and vocals; and Mike Schreur on drums.
“We set out to create our own style of music in order to put fun and originality back into the music world,” the eccentric, Jersey-based band wrote on their official web page.
Everett, a native of England, sat down with Outlook Press to discuss his experiences as a member of the band.
He explained just how different Sexy Heroes is from other bands. He noted that their musical influences vary from Jimi Hendrix to Big D and the Kid’s Table.
“Chris and Mike started it with the original drummer about four or five years ago,” Everett recalled. “We were all friends before I joined, and I used to come over to visit and jam out with them.”
He revealed that he was originally interested in singing and wanted to pursue a career on Broadway. That was until he realized his true calling and genius on the guitar.
When asked about his first guitar, Everett answered with a smirk, “a replica Fender ‘Strat.’ It was worthless, but I loved it. I had modified it a bunch, but now it sits in my bedroom as a trophy. Once you buy a guitar, it’s there for life.”
He enrolled at RCC because he “wanted to study American music and be actively part of the music industry.”
Opening for well-known bands like Catch 22, The Aquabats, the Bloodhound Gang, Fall Out Boy, Bayside, and Cash Cash, it’s safe to say that Sexy Heroes are a nationally acclaimed band.
“There’s always a sense of excitement during a live show,” Everett said. “We try to engage the audience in what we do, because if we are having a good time then it reflects on the audience and they have fun. That’s what helps create a great feeling of energy and excitement.”
Sexy Heroes have also won contests like the “Break Contest,” which gave them the opportunity to play main stage at Bamboozle 2009. Last semester they placed first in RCC’s own “America’s Got Talent.”
Speaking to the fans on behalf of the entire band, Everett said, “thank you all for your support. You guys make it worthwhile.”
