Meet Ambient Ruins, a local band whose contagious musical qualities are bringing them increasing popularity, and rapidly spreading their name far beyond Rockland’s borders. Ambient Ruins drummer and sophomore Eric Dicarlo gave Outlook Press an insider’s view of the band and their beginnings.
Ambient Ruins officially set sail in Dec. 2008, and has been revving up crowds with hard-hitting drums, echoing guitars, and fast-paced tempos, ever since.
“I met this unattractive kid, Chris, who was really funny and we decided to form a band,” jokes DiCarlo.
Chris Whitfield teamed up with Dicarlo to create the crew. The band crystallized with the additions of bassist Joe Samala and Maverick Envoltorio on vocals.
As the members mixed and mashed, the only thing left to do was give this dynamite group a name. Together they decided that nothing suited them better than a crowd chanting “Ambient Ruins.”
Although they are one guitarist short, AR is still tossing back and forth on stage with their guitars, rock and rollin’ harder than ever.
“We had to turn down some shows, but we’re still looking for a temporary guitarist,” Whitfield notes.
Regardless of all their differences in fashion styles, lifestyles, and social habits, each AR member is able to bring individuality to the group, creating an ambient-metal sensation. When they aren’t heating up the crowds of New York, New Jersey, or even Pennsylvania, they are keeping it real together by playing video games, attending parties, and playing instruments.
“We all have similar interests,” says Samala. “We love playing Halo and having a killer time.”
The ambient metal group is washing away crowds as tickets sold out back in November for DiCarlo’s birthday bash. “Tickets were wiped at the door for $10 apiece and $5 for fans who sported “Happy Birthday” or “AR” logos in support of DiCarlo and the band.”
The band will perform at The Nyack Center on March 12, followed by a show in Herkimer, New York in April.
Fans can gain access to the band’s music either through myspace.com/AmbientRuins or at facebook.com/Ambient-Ruins.
Anyone can download their full-length tracks, including the most frequently performed song, “The End is Never Near.”
Ambient Ruins continues to climb toward the top of the charts as fans join in with the band’s headbanging, upbeat rhythms, and hardcore musical qualities.
