UCLA is definitely a school for transfers to consider. After all, it’s located in Los Angeles, California.

UCLA offers a wide variety of majors and minors for not only transferring students but also those coming right from high school. There are 127 undergraduate majors offered in five academic divisions:  Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and the Arts. For those students wishing to pursue a double major, it is possible, with the exception of majors within the School of Theater, Film, and Television. UCLA offers 80 minors.

Among the 55,676 applicants that looked into UCLA, only 12,098 were admitted. These applicants tend to be at the top of their class.

According to the UCLA website, “[There] were 175 student  body presidents; more than 150 National AP Scholars; 400 most valuable players in their sports; nearly 900 outstanding musicians; almost 300 Eagle Scouts and Girl Scout leaders; more than 200 black belts in various martial arts; some 500 Science Olympians; about 500 recipients of book awards from Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Princeton and other universities; more than 150 Model United Nations delegates; more than 150 recipients of Rotary Youth Leadership Awards; and 3,000 who indicated they were captains of their sports or academic teams.”

UCLA demands much from applicants, so that they can get the cream of the crop. For an applicant to even be considered she must complete at least 11 of the 15 minimum requirements.

These requirements can be found on the website, and are clearly listed, but generally speaking you must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher. As for ACT and SATs, you need one of either. If you took the SAT, then you are required to take two subject tests (this will change for those who are applying in 2012).

The UCLA campus is about 410 acres, and has 140 buildings. The student to faculty ratio is 18:1, which puts the average class size at 10-19. UCLA offers housing for transfer students but there is a deadline that must be met. Yearly expenses for an out-of-state resident living on campus are estimated at $49,702. Expenses for students who live off-campus are estimated at $47,602.

All in all, UCLA is a wonderful college and people should think about attending—if cost is not an issue, that is.
