For the third straight year, SUNY Rockland gave honors to several of its star student athletes.  The Italian-American Club in Haverstraw, NY played host to the 3rd Annual Sports Hall Of Fame Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 23.  The event was $50 to attend and was loaded with hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, salad, pasta, prime rib, coffee, and dessert.
Attendees thought the event was a great success. “It was a great representation of the college,” said Assistant Athletic Director Kevin Hanlon.
This year’s ceremony was also the setting for the induction of RCC’s tennis coach, Joe Famellette, into the Hall of Fame. He has been at RCC since its inception 50 years ago.  From 1960-1982, Famallette was a coach of six different sports, compiling over 100 wins.  He currently teaches physical education at RCC.
Pete Carey and Chuck Todd, baseball players from the 1984 RCC Hawks, were among those  admitted into the Hall of Fame. That 1984 team won the Mid-Hudson Conference Championship.  Both of them have strong additional accolades after leaving RCC.
Carey was drafted in the 4th round of the Major League Baseball Draft. He came back to RCC in 1985, proceeded to be drafted in the 2nd round of the MLB draft and played for the minor league affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
Todd was named Mid-Conference Player of the Year in 1985. He was drafted in the 10th round of the MLB draft and played two years for the Cleveland Indians.
Another inductee, Mike Landau, played soccer for RCC over 40 years ago. During his years in RCC he was selected to be a member of All-Conference and All-County. In addition, he was a soldier in the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam.  He graduated from Spring Valley High School and lives in Pomona.
Peter D’Auria was a two-time All Mid-Hudson Conference first team selection in the sport of golf.  After leaving RCC in 1993, he went to Brown University and graduated from Tulane Law.  He is currently employed with the U.S Department of Justice.
Myrcee Cullen was a multi-sport athlete.  She graduated in 1995 and starred in volleyball and basketball.  She was a walk-on for the volleyball team at William Patterson University.  Cullen currently coaches basketball at Manchester Regional High School, in Passaic County.
